Byun Dae Yong

Born in Busan, Korea in 1972, he majored in ceramics and sculpture. Famous for writing humorous stories of social criticism on the themes of figures, bodies and animals, he has lived in Burma, Cambodia, and Busan and Seoul, South Korea, before returning to Gimhae City near Busan to set up a studio for his work. He has held 34 solo exhibitions and 350 group exhibitions, as well as many art fairs, and has had many collaborations with corporations. His works are characterized by simple and clear lines and forms, combined with fairy tales to show the unique feelings of Korea; the bear series, which has the image of a white bear but gazes at human life with a warm gaze, is his most representative work. His works have been collected by the Art Bank of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Amore Pacific Museum of Art, and the headquarters of MBC Korea.
