Concise James Jean

Simple Jean depicts detailed cosmic worlds filled with allegorical and contemporary imagery. He incorporates elements of traditional Chinese and Japanese scroll paintings, Japanese woodcut prints, Renaissance portraiture, comic books and anime into these complex compositions. As he experiments with these different styles and genres of art history, Gene narrows the boundaries between the old and the new, and between Eastern and Western art-making. He has also worked as an award-winning cover illustrator for Marvel and DC Comics, and has collaborated on commercial projects with brands (Prada, Apple) and musicians (My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park.) Jean has exhibited in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Seoul and Tokyo. He has designed movie posters for Darren Aronofsky's Mother, Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water and Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049.
