Omar Chacon

Inspired by the traditional folk art of South America. The artist begins each piece by applying acrylic paint to wax paper, shaping thousands of brightly colored ovals and droplets. After drying, the artist peels off the shapes (each one uniquely handmade) and layers them on canvas or paper to create his highly textured works.Chacon likens the process to a social gathering, as he combines a variety of different elements into a single unit. In a recent series, Chacon looked at the culture and mythology of ancient Rome, creating monochromatic paintings in deep purples and golds that reflect the colors of the social empire.
