Kaneta Ryoko
Born in 1991 in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, she graduated from Yokohama University of Fine Arts in 2014 and currently works and lives in Tokyo, Japan. Like many of her peers, she grew up with the influence of anime and games. Her strong interest in pre-19th century Japanese paintings and literature, coupled with her love of anime and games, has led her to develop her own unique style of work in her creative endeavors.
In Ryoko Kaneda's works, young girls of all sizes leap onto the canvas, and the artist's understanding of nature, gods, weather, seasons, and other things are depicted through anthropomorphic methods in conjunction with Japanese myths or local legends. In her works, each girl has a different deity, substance, phenomenon, and sometimes even an intention or a memory that she represents. The young girls are busy on the canvas, creating a sense of cyclical development and mutual influence, as well as suggesting the passage of time and celebrating the various fleeting beauties that exist in nature.
The style of Ryoko Kaneda's works is based on Chinese ukiyo-e, but has developed its own style, which is unique in contemporary art, and is called "Super Flat Ukiyo-e". From Japan, Thailand, Australia to China, Ryouko Kaneda's works are frequently shown in exhibitions; in the art market, Ryouko Kaneda has also gained more and more favor, and is regarded by many modern art collectors as a young painter with great potential, and some stars we are familiar with, such as Bai Jingting, Wang Yuan, Chen He, and Lin Yun, etc., have all purchased and collected her paintings.
