Wang Dapeng

B.A. and M.A. in Sculpture, Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, China His many years of schooling have provided him with a solid foundation in realism and figuration. Judging from his performance at the academy, he still has a pretty solid foundation in design. After graduating from college, he had observed, studied and practiced Chinese jade carving in school, from which he gained a lot of inspirations in Chinese jade carving, and then he devoted himself to this matter, and eventually embarked on this path. Jade carving is a Chinese art, and the Chinese love to use "jade" to describe a gentleman, deep, restrained, calm, collected and elegant. In order to match the gentle and moist nature of jade, jade carving is not only less about carving, but also more about the expression of jade. In order to match the gentle and moist nature of jade, jade carving emphasizes the expression of the texture of jade, without much carving. As a result, jade carving attaches great importance to the expression of lines, a few cuts, simplicity and flavor. This is also true of Wang Dapeng's sculptures, which are consistent with the aesthetic interests of jade carving.
