Zi Peng chooses jade, a symbolic and sculpted natural gemstone resource, as his "material muse". From 2009 to 2011, he has been researching the optical principle of jade and its culture. As to why he chose jade as his personal creative element, the artist explains: "I have been experimenting with the collision and fusion of Chinese and Western cultures, and the image I created with jadeite and various gemstones is a remembrance of the good times of my childhood. I have been thinking from two perspectives: from a child's point of view, jade is actually like candies and ice cubes, which represent beauty, sweetness and carefree; from an adult's point of view, jade actually represents wealth, status and desire. This contradictory and entangled sentiment represents my personal feelings, which some people may share." His art world and forms are extremely rich, and his series in recent years have incorporated cartoons, tattoos, multi-materials, and other carriers of pop-trend culture, allowing for more than just a single visual presentation of the idea of art creation.
