MR. Masakatsu Iwamoto Masakatsu Iwamoto

Mr.'s vivid, chaotic, cartoon-like compositions draw aesthetic cues from the Japanese otaku subculture, which includes manga and anime fanatics. Like hyper-flat artists such as Takashi Murakami, he combines elements of high and low culture to examine Japanese society as a whole. Since graduating from Tokyo's Sokei College of Art and Design in the mid-1990s, he has been the subject of exhibitions in Tokyo, Paris, New York and Hong Kong. The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Seattle Art Museum, and the Daegu Museum of Art in Korea have collected his work.
